Rash Decisions

I have a mystery rash on my chin. I have no idea how I got it...I haven't eaten anything different nor used new products on my chin, nor have I put my chin anywhere that would cause this atrocity. I can't imagine that it's stress-related, although I do have some right now. All I know is that my chin is now bumpy & (not too terribly) red, & itchy.

VERY.

I noticed that something was going on while we were at my mom's the other night. I just thought maybe it was acne (& a pretty gnarly case of it), so yesterday morning, I put medicine on it. Sometimes, my brilliance is blinding. That stung!

My chin grew itchier & itchier all day. Clearly, this isn't a case of isolated adult acne, but some awful skin ailment. Joy. It's all I can do to keep my hands off of it, & I'm about to run down to the gift shop to see if they have Benadryl. That might help with the itch, but it won't do a thing about the bumps. I've got Caladryl Clear on it, which is really pretty when it flakes.

I really just want to pull a Cartman & soak my chin in a bath of anti-itch something, but of course the directions say to apply sparingly & no more than 3-4 times a day. Damn it.

I'm really stumped. Maybe, just maybe, I'm developing an allergy to my mom, starting with my chin. Could it be?

Were you playing 'ookie mouth' with someone, Claire?

No, silly. But I'll tell Doug that you asked!

Could it be rosecea? If it's not gone by Monday, call a dermotologist. Sometimes they can give you a shot of something to make it go away.

I don't think it's rosacea, I've never had a problem with that before. Gah, I sure hope it's not! I don't want a sudden-onset skin condition!

Hmmm...I guess I'll have to FIND a dermatologist if it doesn't go away.

You aren't one of those folks who holds the phone with your shoulder at work, are you? I once had a skin reaction to something on my phone receiver...probably hand lotion or perfume - never did figure out what but now I'm very careful about how I hold the receiver.

I developed dermatitis at the age of 45 from seemingly out of nowhere... turns out it was from medication that I had been taking for 5 years. Ah, the joys of aging!

I was going to ask if Doug has a closely trimmed beard, but maybe that's what "ookie mouth" means...

Em, that's a good thought - people sometimes use my phone & maybe, just maybe...

Thom, not that I know what Tracey means by "ookie mouth", but yes, Doug does have a nicely-trimmed beard..

I was relieved last night when my friend Julia had the same thing going on, in the same place! And no, we hadn't been making out.

It is how Cartman caught the chicken pox, his mom made him go over to Kenny's house, because Kenny had chicken pox and they wanted Cartman to catch it. His mom made him play a game called "ookie mouth" where Kenny would spit into his mouth and he would try to catch it. Very gross, but effective when it comes to catching the chicken pox. /here ends your south park episode recap.

And yes. I am a dork.
Hope your chin feels better today Claire!

Thanks for the explanation, Tracey!

Update - I went to the dermatologist, & it's just your garden-variety mystery dermatitis. He said it looks like poison ivy but isn't weepy like that, so he didn't know. That's good news, though - I didn't want to be diagnosed with some skin issue. So steroid cream to the rescue, & it's working wonders.
